Big changes are in store for 2016 with major changes to the way transport is conducted for not only the transport operator, but for the customer as well.
A number of Road Safety Remuneration Orders either have already / or will take effect by April 2016!
In effect already, all carriers MUST provide 'Safe Driving Plans to all drivers to ensure a safe work environment to all drivers. It is the responsibility of both the transport company & the consignor (you the supplier) to ensure that all parties have taken into account sufficient driving hours to achieve a tasking. It is no longer just the responsibility of the driver. Additionally, all carriers MUST ensure all employees have received the required load restraint & fatigue training (& certified) to ensure a safe work environment. You the customer are responsible for the condition of your product prior to collection & you MUST ensure it is prepared safely & ready for transport in accordance with these guidelines.
Come April 2016, set conditions in relation to pay structures for both the prime & sub-contractor will take effect. Prime contractor need to ensure all sub-contractor elements not only meet all load restraint, fatigue, insurance requirements (to name a few), but also ensure set rates of payment are adhered too. This may result in re-quoting of established regular runs, project work, etc to our cliental.
